John’s Presidential Inauguration Leadership Summit Fundraiser

Dear Sponsor,

We are the proud parents of John Watson and we are writing on behalf of our son who has been selected to attend the Presidential Inauguration Leadership Summit, January 18-22, 2017 in Washington, D.C. amid the excitement and ceremony surrounding the 58th Inauguration of the President and Vice President of the United States. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and we want you to be a part of it. To learn more about the the Presidential Inauguration Leadership Summit, click here.

John is an honor student with outstanding academics, excellent leadership in school and in the community and he has a promising future ahead of him.

John’s accomplishments and they are as follow:

*President’s Education Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement in 2016 by President Barack Obama;
*PG County Science Bowl – Captain of the Highland Park ES Team 2015-16 (see John in action);

In doing so, with coaching from Mrs. Susan Smith, Talented & Gifted (TAG) Coordinator (susan.smith@pgcps.org), under the leadership of John Watson (Team Captain), Zora Heneghan, Ruth Bridgers and Rene Hernandez-Talavera, all of Ms. Melissa Mommers’(melissa.mommers@pgcps.org), Fifth Grade TAG class, they accomplished a feat that Mr. Zahren (show host) deemed “had not been done by HPES in the history of the Science Bowl” – they advanced to the Semi-finals!

*Academic Award for Ouststanding Academic Acheivement in 2015 from the White House Businesses.

*Nominated in 2016 by his TAG Social Studies teacher,
Mr. Stephen Isler, of Highland Park ES, to attend Envision’s National Youth Leadership Forum: Pathways to STEM. He can be contacted at stephen.isler@pgcps.org.

Our son said “it was a great experience. It showed me the steps to become a successful medical professional and made me realize that my goal of becoming a research doctor for finding the cure for cancer, was not as far away as I’d thought. But I pray that reasearchers would find a cure for cancer before I become a reasearch doctor.”

We need your help to send John on this life changing endeavor as a former representative of Highland Park Elementary and now representing Kenmoor Middle School.
